2013 Reflection: Happy 2014 !

It's hard to believe that it's already 2014. It literally feels like just yesterday I was sitting here writing my post reflecting on 2013. Time really doesn't stop for anyone. Be sure to follow your heart every day, and take every opportunity you can because before you know it, another year has already gone by.

2013 was certainly an interesting year for me. I learned a lot. Primarily, I learned that no matter what happens, life goes on. People will come in and out of your life, but you cannot let that stop you. I also learned that at some point in your life you have to stop living for everyone else, and start living for yourself. For me, that point was 2013. I definitely got into a ton of arguments with friends and family about how I was living my life, but I know that I'm doing the best I can. I know that I'm doing what I need to do right now.

I also learned that I am capable of much more than I thought, and that this is just the beginning for me. In 2013 I really stepped out of my comfort zone. I stopped doing email interviews, and started doing Skype, or in-person interviews. I also covered so many more events. All of those little events paid off when I was able to attend FOX's American Country Awards in Las Vegas.

This year, 2013, has truly been something special. Through the countless ups and downs, I learned that I am truly blessed, and that no matter how many times I fall, my family, friends, and my faith will always be there to pick me right back up. 2013 taught me that I will make it, and prepared me to take over 2014. Everyone says "new year, new me," but I don't necessarily believe in that statement. I don't want to be "new" this year. I'm proud of the person I've become. Instead, I'm going to use 2014 to show everyone else who that person is. 2014 better be ready because I know I sure am.

I wish you all a blessed and Happy New Year!

Beyoncé Releases Surprise Album & Breaks Records

Beyoncé has once again proved why she is, in fact, Queen Bey. The singer's self-titled visual album was released with no promotion of any sorts, and contains 14 songs and 17 music videos. It's unheard of for an artist to release an album without anything leaking, but Beyoncé was able to not only release the tracks, but videos to accompany them as well.

The album hit iTunes on Friday and I immediately purchased it and checked it out for myself. It's different from anything that she has done before and I believe it will be a hit or miss for many people; for me it is a hit! I love everything about the album. It is more than just an attempt at selling records. This album is a piece of art. Each song and video is so unique. It really gives you a glimpse into the artistic genius of Beyoncé as well as a more personal look at her life.

The album is already breaking records too! Apple has announced that the album has sold 828,773 copies in three days, making it the fastest selling album EVER on iTunes. The album also broke U.S. first week album sales with over 600,000 copies sold in the U.S. As of now, the album is only available via iTunes, but it is scheduled to be released as a hard copy sometime during the Holiday season. What do you think of Beyoncé latest album?

Khloe Kardashian Files for Divorce

Sources are stating that Khloe Kardashian has filed for divorce from her husband of four years, Lamar Odom. Khloe reportedly filed for divorce on Friday, citing irreconcilable differences. In addition, she has requested that her name be returned to "Kardashian," dropping the "Odom."

Rumors have been flying for months regarding problems with the marriage, stemming from Lamar's drug addiction. Allegedly, Khloe demanded Lamar go to rehab, but he checked out after only a week, pushing Khloe to her limits.

I'm wish them both well, and hope that Lamar is able to get his life under control soon.

Kendall Schmidt Interview

I recently had the chance to speak with Big Time Rush's Kendall Schmidt! We talked about everything from his experience with BTR, working on his new venture Heffron Drive, and what fans can expect within the next few months. Be sure to follow Kendall on Twitter @HeffronDrive. Check out the interview below.

Hey Kendall! Thanks for speaking with me today. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself, and how you got started in music?
"Music has always been a big part of my life.  I used to sing all the time as a kid.  When I was about 13 or 14 I started playing violin, but it didn’t really fit my rock-ish disposition.  So I eventually picked up the guitar when I was 16 and I haven’t looked back since.  Music is my life and I love it."

Tell me a little bit about Big Time Rush? What was it like getting into that? How has the experience been?
"Being on Big Time Rush has been amazing.  I had done a number of shows before BTR, but it definitely has been my biggest project to date.  Playing Kendall Knight has been an immensely rewarding experience.  I’m so grateful to be able to learn about the industry, work with amazing people, and perform for millions of incredible fans worldwide.  The opportunity was a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I’ve gone for it and will continue to do my best to do improve myself and use this opportunity to better the world."

You’re currently on Tour with your band Heffron Drive. How has touring been? What is the biggest difference between touring with BTR, from HD?
"I can’t tell you how exciting it’s been to finally play a little Heffron Drive.  I’m stoked that the fans are clicking with Heffron Drive.  I have maximal creativity with Heffron Drive so the music really reflects who I am."

Fav Five:
Favorite food?
"Chips and homemade salsa or pizza"
Favorite color?
Favorite song at the moment?
"Avicii 'Wake Me Up'"
Favorite artist(s) of all time?
"Taking Back Sunday"
Favorite childhood TV Show
"Rugrats or Rocko’s Modern Life"

Fan Questions:
@Shervthedhillon would like to know if there is a chance for a world tour involve HD or BTR anytime soon?
"I would love to do a world tour with Heffron Drive and I’m working on making it happen, but it’s going to take some time.  I’d like to put out some new music before we do that though."

@KendallGotMe wants to know what you’re most likely to be doing on your break time?
"Break time… what’s that?  Just playing.  =P  I do a number of things, but mostly I relax, maybe cook, hang out with family and friends, and just decompress."

@Dedicated2BTR wants to know; Cake or ice cream?
"Ice cream cake actually."

@HenderSchmidtxo asks, how old were you when you wrote your first song?
"I think I was 16 or 17."

@AmeezyRush says; “What’s a secret about yourself that Rushers might not know?”
"I was home schooled throughout high school."

@Krtn_apriyanti wants to know if we can expect a Heffron Drive album?
Definitely expect one, but I don’t know when I can release one.  Believe me, as soon as I can, I will let you know because I will be as excited as you for its release.

It was great to speak with Kendall and I want to thank him for taking the time to do the interview. I hope you all enjoyed it!

20th Birthday Vlog & 5 Year Anniversary

Hey guys ! Check out this short video blog from my 20th Birthday Party. I didn't do anything big, but I like it that way. I like that I don't feel the need to have a big party to have a good time. Check out the video above with some shout outs from my friends, and some a capella performances from Natalie Bermudez and Dylan Bernard!

Chris Brown Check Into Rehab

Hopefully this is for the best. After years of tons of ups and downs Chris Brown has decided to enter rehab. Chris has been struggling,  ever since the incident with Rihanna, to redeem himself in the public eye and deal with his anger issues.

His rep released the following statement; "Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

I really hope that Chris can pull himself together. He's an extremely talented artist, and I hope that after this, the public will be able to give him another chance.

New Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been off the radar for a little bit now, and with no studio album currently in the works it seems like she was going to be gone for even longer. The singer, however, does have a new song that may just bring her back to the spotlight.

Guy Harrison Interview

Check out my interview with rapper Guy Harrison. Also, check out his latest music video Sunny Mood featured above. Follow Guy on Twitter @Guy_Harrison. For more information on Guy visit www.guyharrisonmusic.com

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. First, can you please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about yourself?
“My full name is Guy Harrison Campbell, but I rap as just Guy Harrison. I'm a 20 year old student/MC studying digital advertising and marketing at Syracuse University.”

When did you first become interested in music? When did you see it as a potential career?
“I've always loved music. Even as a young kid I would hum melodies to myself, and my mom always had me in the choir at church.  In 8th grade my history teacher asked us what we wanted to do for a living and I said I wanted to be the next Kanye West.  But I didn't take rap seriously until I was about 17 when I got the chance to record my first mixtape with my homie TyCo (Tyler Costantino) in Florida.”

Although you're a newcomer to the game, you've opened up for acts like Big Sean and Mac Miller! Tell us a little bit about those experiences.
“Opening for Mac Miller in 2011 was a really eye opening experience.  It was the first time I had done a soundcheck, or dealt with promoters.   I was 18 then, and since then I've done dozens of shows.   But that show was much needed experience leading up to shows I did with Asher Roth, Fabolous, Cassidy, OCD: Moosh & Twist, Aer, and some other guys.”

I've listened to a lot of your music and you definitely have a great sound. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
“Appreciate that man..I don't like to confine myself to a certain sound really, but I'd say I'm like a mix between Common, J.Cole, Drake, and Kid Cudi.  I rap about real situations that I go through, but I also like to have fun with my music as much as I can.  So I'll throw some melodies into my verses or even sing the hook.  I just try to learn from the best and make it my own.”

What's one thing you would like to accomplish throughout your career?
“My main goal is to win a grammy. I think that is every artist's goal in the industry.”

If you could work with any artist in the industry right now, who would you choose and why?
“I would want to work with J.Cole or Kendrick Lamar because in my eyes, those two are the most insightful MC's in the game.  I'd want one of them to take me under their wing and really show me how its done.”

What's an interesting fact about yourself, that many people may not know?
“I was class president my last two years in High school, and I quoted Biggie during my graduation speech.”

That was the last question. Again, I want to thank you for taking the time to do the interview. Do you have any last thoughts or comments for your fans?
“I just want to thank you for the interview, John. Shouts to all my fans out there, I promise I got more music on deck for the fall.”

Ashly Williams Sings "I Will Always Love You" On X Factor

I've been following The X Factor this season, and thus far only a few artists have really grabbed my attention. One of them in particular grabbed my attention more than the others. Her name is Ashly Williams. Last night, Ashly performed her rendition of I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston, and while it wasn't perfect vocally, her emotion shined through. I believed every word she sang.

Ashly's mother was murdered when she was a little girl, and ever since then she has pursued singing in her honor. If she can continue to perform as she did last night, Ashly will definitely be one to watch this year. Who are your favorites?

Goodbye Summer

So I know Summer hasn't officially ended; but I'm basically over it already. It's been a long summer full of tons of ups and downs, but at the end of the day I can definitely say that I've learned a lot about myself over the past four months.

I definitely accomplished more in the past four months than I've ever accomplished. I'm so grateful to have been apart of Summer Jam, OMG Music Fest, and the countless other events I attended. Basically, I've learned that life doesn't stop for anyone and you have to keep pushing. No matter how hard things get; never give up. If you want something in life than you have to make it happen for yourself. Do not let anyone stop you or tell you otherwise. Live for your own happiness.

Anyway, here are some pictures of me hanging out with my friends in the summer, and some pictures from my family vacation to Canada. Deuces Summer 2013. It's been real.

McKinzie Chic Goes Floral: Designer to the Stars Gears up for Fall 2013 Collection

Philadelphia Fashion Week is right around the corner. And you know what that means: an abundance of Philly’s fashion trendsetters flooding the famed Crane Arts Building to see what Philly’s fashion division has to offer. With 10 designers debuting on September 20th, both national and international designers will come to the main stage to debut their Fall/Winter 2013 collections. And this year’s lineup incorporates Philly’s very own, McKinzie Chic, a trendy women’s ready-to-wear line consisting of blazers, dresses, and jumpsuits.

The brand is the brainchild of South Philly native Sheri McKinzie and was launched during summer 2012. Since the launch of McKinzie Chic, Sheri’s unique pieces have been met with nothing but celebrity validations. Her pieces have been spotted on your favorite celebrities such as Basketball Wives’ Draya Michele, Fantasia Barrino, Bad Girls Club’s Milyn Jensen, and R&B Divas LA’s Michel’le. The hard-to-find textiles add to the exclusivity of McKinzie Chic, as each shopper is always sure to enter the nightclub or dinner date rocking a never-before-seen look. She reinvented what it means to wear a jumpsuit, fashioning sexy cleavage along necklines and accentuating jumpsuits with impeccable lining, making it the archetype way to accent a silhouette. McKinzie Chic reinvented “sexy” making it more chiseled, with her eclectic idea to use rose-patterned sleeves rather than baring skin in her Spring 2013 collection. But as she dives into fall, she is promenading once more into “rose-land,” but this time channeling Italian hedge maze gardens met with sleek city sophistication met with art dealer chic. Make sense?

So on September 20th, models will grace the runway at the Crane Arts Building in her new “Floral Chic Fall/Winter 2013” collection. Sheri has optimisms of gaining the attention of prospective buyers, jetsetters, and stylists. So she is fine-tuning the brand once more, this time from an upmarket angle.
“This time I went for eye-catching, timeless, elegant pieces. And I think I did just that. I’m trying to cross over with this collection and show that I am a versatile designer,” says Sheri on her drive and inventiveness behind the collection. “I want women to see this collection as their essential to a night out on the town or their plus one date to a friend’s wedding. The pieces can be worn almost anywhere.”

The innovative Fall/Winter pieces can’t be duplicated as she mixes up this collection by using roses that vary in size and creating a new trend of pairing long sleeves with three-quarter-length sleeves. She keeps it clean, crisp, and lustrous by sticking to strict color schemes of red, black, taupe, and off-whites but creates pieces of clean basic design. The unique textiles are what make the statement in this collection. She steers away from the mainstream market’s overly frequented basic prints and busts the seams with rare stretch materials. With only days away until her Philadelphia Fashion Week premiere, Sheri is eager for the launch of her cutting-edge collection.

“I want people to look at this collection and think ‘Hey I can see Kim Kardashian or Angela Simmons or Rihanna in this’,” she confesses. “I’m taking it there.”

It is safe to say that the new McKinzie Chic collection is a highly awaited one that you’ll want to be the first to see. Stay tuned on what’s next for the McKinzie Chic brand by checking out www.mckinziechic.com or following on Instagram and Twitter @mckinziechic.

Jay Swag TV - "15 Weird Question" Tag

Hey everyone! It's been a really long time since I've done a video blog, and even longer since you've seen a video with Dylan. I've always been open with my life on here, so here we go.

Neither of us addressed the situation directly, but it's pretty clear that we weren't talking. It took us four months to swallow our prides and finally sit down to talk things through. All I can really say is this; there are friends, and then there are friends that become family. When you find those people, don't be stupid enough to lose that bond. We're back now, and I hope you're ready for everything that is about to happen for us. Thank you for never leaving our sides.

That being said; check out our "15 Weird Questions" tag video. Let us know what you think, and if you have any suggestions for future videos! Follow us on Twitter @OfficialJaySwag and @DTBMuzic.

2013 MTV Video Music Awards

Last night tons of celebrities gathered together in Brooklyn for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. I'm not going to do a whole recap, but I'm going to blog just a few thoughts below.

Overall, I enjoyed the show, which is rare for me. I haven't really enjoyed an awards show in a while. It started off slow, but towards the end everything came together. I'll definitely do my best to be in attendance next year. My favorite performance was definitely Justin Timberlake's.

Honestly, all the performers should've been taking notes because Justin Timberlake really owned the show. In my opinion, he saved the show and made it something special. He proved that he's still got it, and that he's a force to be reckoned with in this industry. He also brought out the rest of 'N SYNC for a very nostalgic reunion. You could hear 90's fan girls screaming across the world. JT is truly one of a kind, and after last night there is no denying his talent.

Umm...I don't really know what to say. Miley's performance was just plain trashy. I see no clear direction for her career, nor do I understand her as a whole. I mean the dancing was tasteless, whatever, but if you're going to be that trashy at least sound good. Miley sounded pitchy the entire performance. Her voice irritated me more than her dancing to be honest.

Lastly, I want to say congratulations to Austin Mahone on his VMA win last night! I've been following Austin's career for a while now. I actually featured him as my YouTube Artist of the Month in July, 2011. I love seeing artists I feature doing big things. Keep it up!

Check out their recent hit song Say Yes above. Also, be sure to watch 106 & Park tomorrow, Monday August 19th, where the guys will be stopping by for an interview. Tuesday, B5 will be doing a Livestream chat that you won't want to miss. Click HERE for the link.

Hey guys! First, can you please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about yourself?
"Yo its ya Boy Dustin, Hey its Kelly, whats up guys Patrick here, what up everybody it's Carnell and i'm Bryan.

We are B5. We are all brothers and we breathe, live and sweat music. Been doing this ever since we can remember and was signed to BadBoy for a while and released 2 albums with Diddy then took a much needed break to enjoy life and re-invent ourselves as artists and grow."
You guys became a group at a young age. When did you know that music was what you wanted to do with your lives?
"Yes we did start young around 7-12 years old. It was kinda something we always did for fun as a hobby. When we started to do Radio Disney competitions in Florida we always won them and realized we wanted to pursue music and started taking it seriously."

You've accomplished so much throughout your career and have been able to perform with the likes of Usher, Kanye West, Mario Winans, and countless others. What do you feel has been your most rewarding experience thus far?
"We've had a lot of great times and have met so many great artists and people in the industry from presenting at the MTV Awards to having the lead song on the Disney phenomenon "High School Musical" album to performing at Madison Square Gardens. But nothing is more rewarding than when our fans are singing our songs when we're performing live!"

What is one thing that you guys hope to accomplish throughout your careers?
"Right now we are all focused on continuing to build our fan base and become a universal household name as a group."

What's any interesting fact about each of you that many people may not know?
Dustin: "I'm a workaholic! Lol. I love to workout & enjoy networking because I love to be around people. Plus Im a movie junkie"
Kelly: "I love to play guitar and I have a passion for art"
Patrick: "I love to make beats and I take my business very seriously"
Carnell: "I love movies and I have a passion for photography! I plan on opening my online photography site soon!"
Bryan: "I spend a lot of my free time producing beats and learning to play piano."

What can your fans expect from you guys within the next year?
"New music, new videos, worldwide tours and meeting as many of our fans around the globe that we can! lol"

@missafrikah73 wants to know if you had to do away with one of your 5 senses (taste, sound etc.), which one would it be and why?
Dustin: "Taste! Dont need to taste food to keep me alive, just need to eat it! Lol"
Kelly: "Definitely taste because I believe the other senses are more important to me"
Patrick: "Smell because I need to see, hear and feel what I'm doing at all times"
Carnell: "Probably smell. Because the other 4 senses are more important to me."
Bryan: "For me it would be smell. Because I need to hear my music, sing my notes and see my fans! Lol"
