Meet The Artists - Midnight Youth

Check out my interview with the New Zealand rock band, Midnight Youth! With their debut album going platinum, and their sophomore album hitting the charts as well, this band is definitely here to stay! Check out  what went down below, and be sure to follow them on Twitter @MidnightYouth.

Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to speak with Jay Swag Entertainment News. First, can you please introduce yourselves and tell us a little background?
“No worries at all! We're Midnight Youth, a rock band from the far corner of the world - New Zealand. We've recorded two albums so far together and had some success with them down under, so now we're off the island and taking our songs all over the world.”

What made you want to pursue music and when did you form your band?
“I think we're all in to making music out of wonder of the power it can have and seeing songs you write wield that. The band formed in 2006, though most of the guys had met and played together during high school a couple of years before then.”

I've listened to a few of your songs and you guys are really great! What was your favorite song to record and why? Your favorite to perform?
Thank you! One of the most enjoyable songs to record was Won't Stop, from the album World Comes Calling, where we were all involved in the process at the same time - there's a whole bunch of percussion where we grabbed whatever we could find lying around the studio and banged it together, as well as gang vocals where we had not just the band but everyone working on the record singing together. Live, my favourite track to perform has got to be Benjamin, from The Brave Don't Run album, the energy and story it conveys is perfect in a rock show.”

You'll be making an appearance at MUSEXPO L.A. Tell us a little bit about how that came about, and what your expectations are?
This will be our second time playing MUSEXPO - we had a great time and made some great contacts the first time around, so we're looking forward to playing again and hopefully using it to get an excuse to stay in the US longer.”

Where do you see yourselves in the next few years?
“Our goal has always been to be an international touring band - so we'll be playing as many shows in as many countries as we can.”

I'm sure by now you've seen the hologram performance of Tupac at Coachella. Which artist that has passed would you like to see perform as a hologram?
“To be honest I wasn't particularly impressed with the novelty of the hologram - I'd rather watch a movie of my favourite dead act and get a more real experience from that.”

What's an interesting fact about you that many people may not know?
We've been living together as a band for the past two years and still haven't broken up!”

If you could tour with anyone who would you pick and why?
“To tour with a re-formed Oasis would be the dream I reckon.”
